Film Screening: Imagism in Documentary Film
Wednesday, October 24
This film screening will feature documentary portraits of Karl Wirsum (“A Movie About Karl Wirsum,” 1971) and Ray Yoshida (“The Individuality of the Inanimate Object: The Collection of Ray Yoshida,” 1990); and a musical sculpto-pictorama by multimedia artist Red Grooms (“Tappy Toes,” 1968). Also included are two contemporary animations: Amy Lockhart and Marc Bell’s “The Collagist” 2009, and Lilli Carre’s “Head Garden,” 2009.
All historical films recently transferred and restored by Nolo Digital Film Chicago and PostWorks New York, with the participation of The Filmmakers’ Cooperative and the estate of Seton Coggeshall. Presented in conjunction with Chicago-based Pentimenti Productions, producers of the forthcoming feature documentary Hairy Who & The Chicago Imagists. A short excerpt from their work-in-progress film rounds out the program. Director Leslie Buchbinder will be present.
