This event will feature two films, Thicker Than Paint and Rain, Once Again. The screening will be followed by a conversation with director, Maryam Sepehri and moderated by Northwestern University Professor of Cinema, Hamid Naficy.

5:00 – 7:00pm

Thicker Than Paint was the winner of the Special Jury Prize for Short Film at the 2013 Milwaukee Film Festival. This documentary focuses on the life of a fascinating woman in Kerman, Iran, Habibeh Bedayat. Thicker Than Paint explores Habibeh’s complex life and gives the audience a glimpse into how this incredible woman broke so many barriers amongst deep gender oppression.

Rain, Once Again is the story of Louise Firouz’s love and perseverance in looking for small ponies, suitable for children to ride. This led her to one of the most important equestrian discoveries of recent decades; the Caspian horse thought to have been extinct for 1300 years. This portrait film tells us the truth about the last days of her life in Iran.
