Houston A. Baker, Jr. is a Distinguished University Professor, Vanderbilt University. An internationally renowned scholar, he has presented lectures at many universities around the world, including the US, Canada, France, Great Britain, Nigeria, Belgium, Brazil, Portugal and Taiwan. He has published numerous books and monographs on Black literature in America, criticism of African, Caribbean and Black American Literature, Black poetry, modernism and the Harlem Renaissance, Black Studies, and Black British Cultural Studies. In 2008 he published, Betrayal: How Black Intellectuals Have Abandoned the Ideals of the Civil Rights Era. His publications of articles and essays is extensive, representing an extraordinary body of work on literature, culture, Black writers, Black aesthetics and the Black Arts m ovement, criticism of African American literature, rap, music, and black film. In addition, he has published poetry and presented readings.
