The he/art Experience: An evening with Tim’m West and youth members from the Center on Halsted

Join us for a performance reading, peace circle and workshop

Friday, October 26 from 3:00-6:00pm | DePaul Art Museum | 2nd Floor
Doors open at 2:30 light snacks will be served

Tim’m will read excerpts from various CDs including ‘fly-brotha’ and ‘BlakkBoy Blue(s)’. Featured in such critically acclaimed documentaries such as Hip Hop- Beyond Beats and Rhymes and Pick Up the Mic, Tim’m West  speaks to practicing a fearless engagement within issues of race and racism, gender violence, and corporate exploitation of youth culture. In true form- he speaks from an unapologetic underground music movement – defying the music industry’s most homophobic genre in the process.

Afterward Tim’m will facilitate a creative writing workshop designed to ground and free the voice while readying participants for possibilities of sharing creative work at Dandelions in the Concrete immediately following in the SAC Pit.

Tim’m West is a gay-identified, feminist, poet-activist, and rapper who uses lyrics and music to explore gendered identities and the possibilities of love as socio-political practice. He holds a MA in Liberal Studies/Philosophy from the New School for Social Research, and a MA in Modern Thought & Literature from Stanford University. Currently the Associate Director of Youth Programming at The Center on Halsted.
