Within the Eye of the Storm: When Enemies Turn to Brothers
The Center for Interreligious Engagement cordially invites you to attend a film screening and discussion of Within the Eye of the Storm: When Enemies Turn to Brothers” Reconciliation across the Israeli-Palestinian Divide on March 4 at 6pm.
Bassam and Rami, a Palestinian and Israeli, were once dedicated fighters willing to kill and be killed for the sake of their nations. Left with the excruciating pain of bereavement when their daughters were killed in the conflict, they chose to do the unexpected: They set out on a joint journey to humanize the enemy in order to prevent the vicious cycle of retaliation in themselves and their societies. The film follows their two parallel stories and the moments where they converge, both in their personal experiences and peace work, as they face their shattered families, confused communities, and opposing society.
Discussion led by Professor Frida Kerner Furman, Religious Studies, DePaul University, whose research explores the possibilities and processes of reconciliation in Israel-Palestine.
This event is free and open to the public.
