Anxious Objects: Work by Ken Butler

September 10 – November 23

/ 2004

Adding a few components to found objects as diverse as a snow shovel, a cowboy boot and a bed headboard, Ken Butler produces musical instruments that are startling, beautiful, and playable. As his forms challenge our assumptions about sculpture, his performances (solo or with artists like Laurie Anderson or John Zorn) expand our ideas of what “music” can sound like. His work-provocative, elegant, and playful-has been seen and heard at the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and numerous other venues. Cosponsored with the School of Music.
