Dawoud Bey: Portraits in Context

April 10 – June 22

/ 2014

“Dawoud Bey: Portraits in Context” seeks to open up the processes of portrait-making and exhibition-making by presenting a body of Bey’s photographs, “Street Portraits,” alongside portraits by other artists he has selected from DPAM’s permanent collection. For this project, Bey approached the gallery as a site for conversation: “It’s not an artificial imposition, but it’s actually an extension of my thinking.” His intuitive installation brings the photographs into new contexts, allowing them to participate in a unique conversation with each other and with Bey’s own work.

An artist led gallery talk will take place on April 12 at 3:00pm. This is event is free and open to the public.
